Mistfall Hunter Decipher Guide — Cipher-to-NPC Answers

Verified against launch-version decipher outcomes · August 2026
Short answer: Decipher unlocks at camp level 5. Each cipher shows clue words — hand it to the camp NPC whose theme matches those words, and the decoded reward arrives by mail. The full matching table is below; rewards must be claimed from mail before September 1, 2026.

How decipher works

  1. Loot cipher items during runs (they extract with you like any loot).
  2. Reach camp level 5 to unlock the Decipher function.
  3. Inspect the cipher's clue words, pick the matching NPC from the table below, and hand it over.
  4. Collect the decoded reward from your mail. Right NPC, full reward — the clue words exist so you never have to guess.
Deadline: deciphered mail rewards expire. Claim them before September 1, 2026 — after that they're gone.

The complete clue-word table

Pip

Theme: music, trees and hidden stashes. Clue words: Mantra · Score · Plucking · Tree Hollow · Secret Cache · Elder Edict

Dew

Theme: journeys home and prophecy. Clue words: Homeward · Anchor · Prophecy · Spindle · Echo

Dew is also the merchant unlocked by a major camp upgrade (around 10,000 Gyldenblod) — unlock him early and you'll use him constantly.

Soekja

Theme: the sea and the road. Clue words: Stone Steps · Tides · Signpost · Supplies · Guidance · Return

Sigrid

Theme: brewing and alchemical traces. Clue words: Sealing Wax · Residual Heat · Acid · Malt · Cloves

Cazarro

Theme: trade, politics and debt. Clue words: City State · Intelligence · Insight · Balance · Blood · Barter · Haggling · Covenant · Interest

Dramm

Theme: the forge. Clue words: Fire · Brimstone · Ashes · Anvil · Furnace · Smoke

Merimo

Theme: the caravan trail. Clue words: Hay · Cheese · Rugs · Caravan · Camel Bells · Salt Licks

The Ashen trick

Hand any cipher to Ashen and he routes it onward to Sigrid with a Ripple Gem bonus attached. If the cipher's clue words point to Sigrid anyway, going through Ashen is strictly better — same reward, plus the gem.

Quick matching tips

  • One word is enough. Each clue word belongs to exactly one NPC — "Anvil" is always Dramm, "Caravan" is always Merimo. You never need the full set.
  • Cazarro has the widest net (nine clue words). When a word smells like money or politics, it's his.
  • Wrong guesses aren't free. Match from the table rather than trial-and-error — ciphers are limited per run and mail deadlines are real.
