Mistfall Hunter Beginner Guide

Written for launch-version hunters · August 2026
Short answer: Every run has one goal — kill a Returner Woodling, take its Soul of Return, and extract alive. Everything you loot only becomes yours at the extraction point; die first and it drops where you fell. Play for the exit, not for the kill count.

The extraction loop, step by step

  1. Drop in on one of the two launch maps — Hallowgrove or Brandrgarde — alone or in a squad of up to three.
  2. Farm PvE: Corroded monsters drop Gyldenblod (gold) and gear. Chests, mimics and bosses pay better but make noise that other players hear.
  3. Secure your exit: hunt a Returner Woodling and claim its Soul of Return — this is what unlocks your extraction.
  4. Extract at a return point with your Soul. Banked loot is safe forever; everything else is a bet.
  5. Spend and repeat: gold funds camp upgrades and gear; better gear enables greedier runs.

The rule that defines the genre: if you die before extracting, everything you carried drops for anyone to loot. Other hunters share your map — this is PvPvE, never a private dungeon.

Your camp is your real progression

Character level caps at 12 — you'll hit it fast. Lasting power comes from the camp. The upgrade order that matters:

  • Camp level 5 first. It unlocks Decipher — turning the cipher items you loot into mail rewards. Ciphers are dead weight before this. (Full NPC matching table: Decipher guide.)
  • Save roughly 10,000 Gyldenblod for the camp upgrade that unlocks the merchant Dew — one of the decipher NPCs and a steady source of supplies.
  • Path of Glory unlocks at level 6. These ranks are your post-cap progression track; check the board every time you level.
  • Spirit Infusion is the fast lane: you can spend about 3,600 gold to skip straight ahead on early levels. Worth it on a fresh class you intend to main; wasteful on one you're just trying.

Five mistakes that cost beginners their loot

1. Staying after the Soul of Return

The moment you hold a Soul, every extra chest is a gamble against your whole inventory. Greedy players feed the leaderboard's ambushers.

2. Fighting other players early

PvE gear beats starter gear, and most early PvP deaths are gear checks, not skill checks. Farm first; fight when your affixes are online.

3. Ignoring sound

Bosses, chests and fights are audible across the map. Every loud action is a dinner bell — assume a third party is always coming.

4. Hoarding ciphers before camp level 5

Undeciphered ciphers do nothing. Rush camp 5, then turn every cipher into mailed rewards via the right NPC.

5. Playing a class that fights your queue

Seer in solo is misery; Shadowstrix in trio is wasted potential. Match class to queue with the tier list, and read stances on the classes page.

Your first five runs, planned

RunGoal
1Learn the Hallowgrove layout; extract once with anything
2Farm PvE routes; bank your first real gold
3Push toward camp level 5 with your earnings
4Unlock Decipher; run ciphers through the correct NPCs
5Try Brandrgarde; take one fight on your terms, then extract
Free progression boosts: there are no public redeem codes, but the developers have mailed out three waves of free launch rewards — some still claimable. Check what's live on the codes & rewards page.
